They were each surprised to suddenly get invitations to a Baby Shower for Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Chambers. Each looked at the invitation with suspicion until they opened the invitations and saw Audrey’s name. They hadn’t seen or heard from Audrey in about 4 months, but with her job that wasn’t uncommon for her to drop off the map and suddenly pop up, but to be suddenly married and pregnant threw the ladies for a loop. Their cell phones were blowing up in the two weeks prior to the shower as everyone wanted a blow-by-blow of her sudden change of fortune. Her new address was on Twin Cove Road in Stevensville, MD, a posh upscale area on the Chesapeake Bay. Jasmine, Kim, and Stacy decided to ride together since they were unfamiliar with the area. When they drove through the rural area near the bay, they got a little apprehensive since Audrey was a city girl and they were way out in the boondocks. But the GPS kept pointing them forward. Finally, they came to the driveway and looked at a huge white three story modern style home on the Chesapeake Bay. They could smell the salt air in the evening breeze.

“No, this bitch didn’t,” said Kim.

“Oh, this place is beautiful,” said Jasmine.

Stacy remained silent as she drove up. A number of cars were already parked and a number of women were streaming into the new home.

“Stacy, she didn’t mention anything to you?” asked Kim. Stacy quietly shook her head no. Stacy was already salty that her cousin had been holding out on her.

They pulled up into the circular driveway and parked. In the doorway stood a very handsome black man in a Howard University t-shit and sweat pants. He smiled as the women rolled up. Kim was out front extending her hand.

“Hello, I’m Jeff Chambers, Audrey’s husband, welcome.”

Jeff firmly took each woman’s hand and put it between his hands in a warm welcome. Stacy, Kim, and Jasmine couldn’t help but to light up.

“Audrey is inside in the living room, come in and get comfortable. The woman walked into the grand foyer with windows all around. The floors were shiny hardwood and the windows ran from floor to ceiling to allow in natural light. The women were impressed as they strolled to the living room that overlooked the Chesapeake Bay. Audrey was a radiant mother to be as she waved and smiled from the couch as the women sat down and chatted with her. Audrey was a bubbly woman by nature and her pregnancy of 7 months made her look even happier.

Kim walked up to hug her first.

“Girl, how in the hell do you get married and pregnant that quick?”

“Plain old luck,” Audrey said smiling.

Stacy walked up next, a little reserved, and hugged Audrey. “Hey, cuz, I’m so happy for you girl.”

“Thank you girl.”

Then Jasmine gave Audrey a very strong hug, and surveyed the beautifully decorated living room overlooking the Bay.

“Have a seat, have a seat. The women all plopped down to hear the story about this man and the baby.
